Rescuer Access
Establish safe access to the cable and prepare the rescuer for progression toward the chair.
ITRA Technical Rescue Congress 2026
A practical chairlift evacuation workshop focused on rescuer access, cable progression and passenger evacuation in suspended transport systems.
Workshop Organizer
Organized and delivered by Petzl.
This workshop focuses on practical rescue techniques for chairlift evacuation, including rescuer access to the cable, progression toward the chair and passenger evacuation.
The rescue strategy may vary depending on factors such as cable slope, clearance above the ground, distance between towers, number of passengers and the available recovery area.

About the Workshop
Ski lift evacuation presents a specific technical rescue challenge. The rescuer must reach the suspended installation safely, travel along the cable or access system, reach the passenger and complete the evacuation using a controlled rescue method.
Establish safe access to the cable and prepare the rescuer for progression toward the chair.
Progress along the suspended cable system using appropriate rescue equipment and techniques.
Reach the chair, establish a safe working position and prepare the passenger for evacuation.
Carry out a controlled evacuation of the passenger to the designated recovery area.
Operational Factors
Chairlift rescue techniques cannot be treated as a single fixed solution. The rescue method must be adapted to the characteristics of the installation.
Participants will explore how different environmental and technical factors influence the rescue strategy.
Workshop Format
The workshop is designed around direct practical participation. Participants will work through the key stages of a chairlift rescue operation in a controlled training environment.
The limited group size allows close interaction with the instructor and direct contact with the equipment and rescue techniques.
Equipment
All technical equipment required for the Ski Lift Rescue Workshop will be provided as part of the training setup.
Equipment for safe access and progression on the suspended cable system.
Systems to position and secure the rescuer while operating at the chair.
Equipment designed to secure and prepare passengers for evacuation.
Controlled lowering and rescue equipment for passenger evacuation.
Participant Information
Participants should be comfortable operating in a work-at-height environment and following technical rescue instructions.
All rescue equipment required for the workshop will be supplied by the workshop organizer.
Safety
The primary identified hazard for this workshop is falling from height.
The exercise also involves suspended loads and an outdoor environment. Participants must follow the instructions of the workshop team throughout all practical activities.
